My thought about Signal (week 9)

Signal's biggest selling point, in my opinion, is that its a secure encrypted messaging app, which means that it is a lot safer than messaging apps like Facebook messenger, WhatsApp, Skype, etc. Signal is developed by a non-profit organization, it doesn’t try to gather a bunch of data on you or show you any advertisements. While Signal has a very familiar interface with most messaging apps on the market, it’s very different under the hood. Your conversations in Signal are end-to-end encrypted, which means that not even the owners of Signal can monitor them. Only the people in the conversation can see them. In today's time and age, due to the steadily growing number of cybercrimes, people start to take more and more precaution in protecting their private information. Which means that Signal would attract a lot people who want to take measures to protect their data. Therefore, I think Signal will have great success in the near future.

My thoughts about Meta (Week 5)

Image
I think the rebranding of Facebook overall did not have that much of an impact so far. There is very little change in most of the social media that the company owns. I had already done some research about the rebranding before I took this class about why the company rebranded. Therefore, I think the rebranding of Facebook to Meta is a pretty smart move, because the if you have a company named Meta, it directly assembles itself to Metaverse, which is a network of 3D virtual worlds focused on social connection. Which I believe that as AR and VR technology grows, more people and things will become affected by it. Metaverse is considered the next big thing by a lot of people. Although Meta didn't release news of major break through in any Metaverse technology, changing its name just shows that their desire to become the  monopoly in the field of Metaverse.
